The Texas Composting Council Compost Summit 2025 brought together composting professionals, environmental leaders, and equipment dealers from across the state for three days of learning, networking, and live demonstrations. Held October 8 – 10 in Katy, Texas, this year’s event was sponsored and exhibited by Powerscreen Texas.
The first two days, October 8 and 9, focused on indoor technical training sessions, where attendees gained in-depth knowledge about composting fundamentals, sustainability benefits, and equipment best practices. Industry experts covered everything from compost science and contamination control to operational efficiency and market development. These sessions emphasized how composting plays a vital role in reducing landfill waste, improving soil health, and supporting a circular economy. The excitement peaked on October 10, when attendees headed outdoors for the equipment demonstration day, hosted by one of Powerscreen Texas’s customers, New Earth, at their Katy facility. More than 100 compost professionals gathered to watch several machines in action, including three showcased by Powerscreen Texas: the CBI 6800CT Horizontal Grinder, the Komptech Crambo 6000 Slow Speed Shredder, and the Komptech Cribus 5000 Trommel Screen. Each machine had its own demo slot, giving attendees the chance to see the equipment run firsthand.
Nick Learoyd, President of Powerscreen Texas, commented, “It was a great event that was well done by the Composting Council. We were grateful to demo three of our units to composting experts from all around Texas.”
The CBI 6800CT Horizontal Grinder, known for its unmatched throughput, is built for heavy-duty wood waste, green waste, and compost feedstock reduction. With a 1,200 horsepower CAT engine and the ability to process up to 200 tons per hour, it’s one of the most productive grinders available in North America. Its precision grinding capability allows operators to produce uniform particle sizes, crucial for efficient composting and faster material breakdown. Next up was the Komptech Crambo 6000 Slow Speed Shredder, a dual-shaft shredder with a 600 horsepower engine that delivers high torque at low speed for shredding tough organic materials. Its design minimizes fines and reduces contamination, making it ideal for green waste and wood preprocessing before composting. Finally, the Komptech Cribus 5000 Trommel Screen took the spotlight, offering exceptional screening efficiency. With a large 24 foot drum and up to 250 cubic yards per hour of throughput, the Cribus 5000 efficiently separates finished compost from overs, ensuring consistent, high quality product for market ready compost.
Patrick McGarrity, Sales Representative for Powerscreen Texas, added, “Showcasing two of our Komptech units and a CBI grinder was a huge benefit for us. It is rare that this many compost producers from across this vast state are gathered in one place and allowing them to see machines that are specifically relevant to them was great.” Host partner, New Earth, also recognized the value of the collaboration. “We personally run equipment from Powerscreen Texas and see the value in the solutions they have to offer,” said Katie Blaylock, Facility Manager at New Earth’s Katy Facility. “It was much appreciated to have them sponsor this event and demo a few pieces of machines for others in our realm to see in action.”
The 2025 Compost Summit successfully highlighted the innovation and collaboration driving Texas’s composting industry forward. With partners like Powerscreen Texas leading the charge in providing efficient, sustainable equipment solutions, the future of composting in the Lone Star State looks brighter and greener than ever before.
