Family Legacy in Crushing and Redi-Mix

Simpson Crushed Stone has grown from humble beginnings into a successful family-run business with a strong reputation across Texas. Running their own quarries and offering contract crushing services, Simpson Crushed Stone continues to make an impact on the state’s construction and mining industries thanks to material produced by over 35 pieces of crushing and screening equipment from Powerscreen Texas.

Crushing Excellence

Founded in 2000 by Rusty Simpson, Simpson Crushed Stone operates several quarries across Texas, including sites in Midland, Nemo, Hondo, Gillett, and Pilgrim. In addition to crushing operations, Simpson Crushed Stone owns and operates two sand and gravel pits that supply the needs of their redi-mix business.

The Hondo quarry stands out as the company’s largest site. Here, Simpson Crushed Stone uses advanced technology, including the Terex Washing Systems AggreSand, to produce manufactured sand and 1-inch, 57 rock. This material is used for an array of their customers, from oil fields to construction projects across the state. At their Nemo limestone quarry, SCS occupies 575 acres of land, where a dedicated staff of 10 works tirelessly to produce their high-quality materials. This site is supported with the use of numerous configurations consisting of all Powerscreen equipment, including Chieftain 2100X inclined screeners, Trakpactor 550 impact crushers, 1000 Maxtrak cone crushers, and many more.

Expanding Horizons

In addition to their crushing business, Simpson Crushed Stone’s sister company, Chisholm Trail Redi-Mix, has become a prominent player in the redi-mix industry. Co-owned by Rusty Simpson and his son-in-law Nathan, and presided over by Sadye Simpson, Chisholm Trail Redi-Mix operates three ready-mix plants that serve the Dallas-Fort Worth area. At the heart of Simpson Crushed Stone is its close-knit family dynamic. Rusty’s wife, Shelly, also plays an integral role in the company, supporting its expansion and ensuring the business runs smoothly. Rusty’s son Wiley is also a key player in the company, contributing to its operations and ongoing success.

The combination of Simpson Crushed Stone’s aggregates and Chisholm Trail Redi-Mix’s concrete expertise ensures a comprehensive service offering that covers every stage of construction projects, making them a one-stop-shop for many of their clients.

With multiple crushing and screening configurations throughout their quarry, each set up utilizes a Powerscreen Trakpactor 550 impact crusher as their primary crushing unit, feeding into a Chieftain 2100X inclined screen, followed by a 1000 Maxtrak cone crusher for the oversized aggregate to be reduced further before recirculating into the Chieftain screener to reach their desired product goals. Each of these set ups are integral to producing their vast array of product offerings including flex base, 1 ¾” minus base, 1” utility rock, 1” 57 washed stone, washed grade 5, manufactured sand, septic rock, 67 ¾” pipe bedding, rip rap, 3 x 5 oversize, fill dirt.

Partnership with Powerscreen Texas

One of the most critical factors in Simpson’s sustained growth has been their long-standing partnership with Powerscreen Texas. This relationship, which began over 20 years ago, has played a vital role in shaping their equipment fleet and capabilities. Rusty Simpson’s first purchase from Powerscreen Texas was a Terex Pegson 428 Trakpactor, which quickly became a cornerstone of his operation.

Since then, Rusty has continued to expand his fleet, upgrading to the Terex Pegson 1412 Trakpactor and ensuring that his company only runs top-tier machinery from Powerscreen Texas. Today, Simpson Crushed Stone operates an extensive fleet that includes over 20 impact and cone crushers, around 15 Powerscreen Chieftain 2100X screening plants, two Terex Washing Systems AggreSand wash plants, and over 10 MGL conveyors. Rusty’s investment in quality equipment from Powerscreen Texas has allowed the company to tackle the most challenging crushing jobs with efficiency and precision.

Rusty Simpson shared, “We’ve run a lot of material through our machines from Powerscreen Texas, and they perform exceptionally. What has really kept us hooked with them is the parts and service that they provide. They always make sure that we are up and running smoothly.”

The dedicated support from Powerscreen Texas has allowed Simpson Crushed Stone to maintain high productivity levels with minimal downtime. Rusty’s commitment to running only the best machines has allowed the company to diversify its product offerings, moving from producing primarily base material to a wide range of aggregates.

One of the most significant projects demonstrating the strong partnership between Simpson Crushed Stone and Powerscreen Texas was the dirt work and site preparation for the Powerscreen Texas North Texas yard in Waxahachie. This project showcased the expertise and capability of SCS, further cementing the relationship between the two companies. The completion of the Waxahachie yard is a testament to the trust and collaboration that have been built over the years, and it stands as a shining example of how local businesses can support each other’s growth.

Looking Ahead

As Simpson Crushed Stone continues to expand its operations, the company remains grounded in the family values that have driven its success. Their commitment to delivering top-quality products and services, combined with their long-standing partnership with Powerscreen Texas, ensures that they will remain leaders in the Texas crushing and redi-mix industries for many years to come.
